Three Falls Ranch in Posey, California is just 2.5 hours north of Los Angeles and holds over a century of robust American history. This breathtaking vacation rental sits on 130 sprawling acres of hiking trails, private waterfalls, rescue animals, a rushing river, and incredible memories that are sure to last a lifetime. The Orchard Cabin at Three Falls Ranch is unlike anywhere you’ve stayed before!

A piece of history in nature…
This historical hidden gem is nestled in the southern Sierra Mountains. Three Falls Ranch was first established in 1911 by George Haberfelde, who was once briefly the mayor of Bakersfield and, more notably, the owner of California’s first Ford car dealership.
He and his family built a large main house, several private cabins, a “card house,” epic communal picnic areas, planted sequoia mangroves and forged pathways in multiple locations throughout the property, over many decades. Rumor has it that Henry Ford himself stayed on this very ranch, along with the Haberfelde family and friends on several occasions.
The Haberfedle family owned this property up until a few years ago and left literally EVERYTHING behind when they sold it to the current owners, Allison and Tom. All the vintage books, furniture, decor, photographs, etc. used throughout the space are 100% authentic to the property and era. It’s like staying in a museum or a time capsule!

A modern upgrade…
The freshly remodeled Orchard Cabin is located about 400 feet from the main house but offers more than enough space and privacy. The modern, yet authentic, vintage cabin features 2 bedrooms and 2 full baths with the option of a fifth roll away bed if needed. It also has a full kitchen, central air and heat, a well stocked entertainment area with games and movies, private balconies, outdoor grill and of course, wifi.
All guests have full and immediate access to over 1/3 mile of Poso Creek, including the private waterfalls, 130 acres of hiking, wildflowers, creek exploring, star gazing, giant rope swing, and amazing guided visits with all the sweet rescue animals. (including mini goats, chickens, a turkey, mini donkeys and more.) This cabin sits at the beginning of the trail to Three Falls, which can be found only about 1,000 feet upstream.

Things to do…
Once we arrived at Three Falls Ranch, we never left the property until check out! With so much to do, from the animals, the hiking trails, the waterfalls, the river and the tours on the immediate ranch, we never ran out of things to explore. However, it’s still a great base camp for exploring the rest of the southern Sierra Mountains and Sequoia National Forest.
If you do decide to venture out, the ranch is less than an hour away from Kern River and Kernville. Travel up the mountain and you’ll find Frog Meadow, Portuguese Pass, California Hot Springs, and Tobias Peak Trail. The ranch is also less than an hour away from Trail of 100 Giants, Deer Creek Grove, and several of the less visited, but still very impressive, southern giant sequoia groves.

Overall Experience…
Our stay in the Orchard Cabin at Three Falls Ranch was nothing short of modern vintage heaven. With such rich history, I couldn’t help but imagine the nature lovers who came here a century ago. Hiking among the same trees and trails, sleeping in the very cabin we slept in, starring up into the same night sky. There’s something so grounding about connecting with history and humanity through nature. I can’t remember the last time I felt so at peace.
The hosts, Allison and Tom, were so kind and welcoming, they made this experience something we will never forget. The Orchard Cabin is merely the beginning of a major remodel plan for the several cabins on the property, so this truly is just the beginning. I’m so excited to see this ranch be restored by such a wonderful family in the years to come!
I truly enjoyed every acre of Three Falls Ranch. It has a rich history and heart that made this nature escape so timeless and magical. This vast ranch holds adventures and memories simply waiting to be uncovered. I could stay here forever and can’t wait to go back! <3
