This really yummy (and admittedly odd) Plant-Based, Vegan Cheese Sauce recipe has been a go-to in my kitchen for several years. It’s a super simple sauce that can be thrown together by anyone, in a matter of minutes, with just a little heat from the stove (no overnight nut soaking here LOL). It’s super versatile as an appetizer dip, a main course on top of pasta or wherever you’re feeling the need for “cheese”, this special sauce might become your new favorite too- there’s only one way to find out.

The cheese sauce’s main (and unusual) component is Nutritional Yeast, a yellow flakey powder that can be bought in bulk bags (I recommend) or in jars, online or at a natural food store. While Nutritional Yeast might sound really gross and like something you might want to avoid- it has so many health benefits, with protein, B vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Not to mention it somehow makes everything taste like cheese when used just right.

The Plant-Based and Vegan Cheese Sauce Recipe is ideal for dipping chips and veggies or poured over noodles for a vegan “Mac & Cheese”. Try it smothered over baked potatoes, dunked into with curly fries, drizzled over some veggie taco’s and so much MORE!

Vegan Cheese Sauce

Equipment

  • Sauce Pan
  • Small bowl
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Measuring Cups
  • Whisk

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Cup Plant Based Milk
  • 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 tsp Dijon Mustard (or any kind)
  • 7 Tbsp Nutritional Yeast Powder
  • 1 Tbsp Flour (any kind)
  • ½ tsp Garlic Powder
  • ½ tsp Onion Powder
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 1 dash Black Pepper

Instructions
 

  • Mix Milk + Olive Oil + Mustard in sauce pan on medium heat
  • Mix remaining dry ingredients together in separate bowl
  • Gradually add dry mix into saucepan liquid and whisk. Bring to simmer and occasionally stir for 5 minutes or until desired thickness is reached. Add more milk if too thick and cook longer (or add a little more flour) if sauce is too thin.
