Stay in Crestline California at Toad Haven Cottage.
It was a sunny California day and our drive up the San Bernardino Mountains was incredible. The sweeping views of the vast valleys below us were breathtaking and somehow I knew with every turn we made, it was a sign of the amazing experiences to come.
It was a birthday weekend and we wanted to be swept up in nature to relax and unwind for a few days. I searched all over the internet for a perfect nature-filled getaway. Finally, I found Toad Haven Cottage on Air Bnb and the rest was history. This newly remodeled, two story, A-frame mountain home, was perfectly nestled in the canopy of the San Bernardino National Forrest and was even better than we could have imagined.
Upon check-in we were greeted by the host and given a quick tour of the property and all of its wonder. The A frame windows of this home are truly the shining star of this property. Providing a view from every room and so perfectly aligned with its natural surroundings.
You almost lose sense of their existence, allowing the nature inside with you. But don’t worry- all of this nature won’t leave you roughing it- this tree house in the sky had every amenity you could dream of, washer, dryer, air conditioning, wifi, Roku TV, bluetooth speaker plenty of toiletries, towels and even matching flannel robes for two.
Along with a personalized greeting letter and detailed instructions of the home’s features, the hosts provided a very useful list of local restaurants they personally loved, along with clear indication of pricing- something I really appreciated.
However dining out wasn’t the only option- the full kitchen was stocked with complimentary, locally made pastries, orange juices, bottled waters, a fruit bowl, a wide variety of teas, coffee, creamer, sugar, flour, endless spices, and let’s not forget the surprise birthday cake they picked up just for our special occasion. Needless to say, we felt incredibly welcomed from the moment we arrived.
After we got settled, we grabbed a handful of peanuts (provided by host) and headed to the porch to make some animal friends- as one should! It didn’t take long before we were the coolest humans in the forrest, according to the flock of blue jays and squirrels. The porch was my favorite place of all. Suspended in the trees of Crestline California, I felt every worry I had melt away the longer we stayed.
The hosts, Roby and Carolyn, have clearly put a lot of time, love and thought into every corner of this home. From the renovations they did together, to the furniture, decor, live plants throughout and little hand-picked trinkets, this place is filled with true originality and traditional cabin character.
Charming is an understatement. We spent some time at Lake Arrowhead Village during the day, but mostly enjoyed our very special trip in this little piece of “Toad Haven”.
